![]() I was very fortunate to be placed in my assigned group for this class. I ended up in a group that worked pretty seamlessly together, despite distance and the normal challenges that pop up when completing group work online. Communication was key for our group. Luckily, we were able to fit a live meeting into our busy schedules and design a plan of action for how to proceed with the project. The division of labor we decided on was based on our individual strengths. We were able to divide the work evenly while playing up each other’s gifts to ensure our project would be the best it could be. Splitting the work based on our talents also gave us each something to look forward to working on, I believe. After dividing up the labor, we were able to discuss the design of our classroom. We agreed that we wanted an inclusive, relaxed, and welcoming environment, and we incorporated these ideas into our purchases. To produce an environment that could accommodate both a structured and relaxed setting, we divided the classroom into two learning areas: one with traditional desks facing a Smart Board, and one with futons facing the white board. In order to increase student attention, we replaced all desk chairs with active learning stools, which will allow students to wiggle about to their heart’s content, which research has shown to be effective in schools for promoting active learning and greater attention in class. We also added a bookcase, another printer, and additional work-tables with white board tops for students to collaborate at. My group wanted to ensure that all students would feel included in the new classroom we designed. To ensure this, we researched a number of software and assistive technologies to help those with disabilities achieve their full potential in the classroom. We ended up incorporating many free software options into our purchasing plan that will support students with visual impairments, dyslexic students, students who have trouble writing, and students who simply need extra support in the classroom. I am incredibly impressed with the effort my teammates put into this project, and I believe that our group dynamic worked well because of our good planning and clear communication. I think in the end we were able to design a classroom that is inclusive, enabling, and reflective of our commitment to incorporating technology into the classroom.
